What Remains of Us Sconce I

€0.00

What Remains of Us Sconce I explores the encounter between historical ornamentation and contemporary lighting technology. Fragments inherited from the workshop of Venetian artist and restorer Fabio Da Tos are integrated into hand-sculpted bronze forms, creating an unexpected composition where centuries-old decorative elements coexist with radical, futuristic lines.

At the heart of the piece is a lighting technique developed in collaboration with Papier à Êtres. Delicate Kozo paper fibres are applied directly onto glass tubes, forming a thin, irregular layer that diffuses the LED light within. The natural texture of the paper softens the precision of the technology, producing an almost immaterial glow while retaining the subtle variations and imperfections of the handmade surface.

Each sconce is individually sculpted in wax before being cast in bronze by a specialised French foundry. The historical ornaments become part of the sculpture itself, while the textured bronze can be finished in different patinas, from deep black to pale, spectral tones with polished metallic highlights. Every piece carries subtle variations in its surface, reflecting the gestures and processes involved in its creation.
